Netflix has cast Canadian actress Sophie Nélisse as Lucy in its upcoming series adaptation of Carley Fortune's bestselling romance novel "This Summer Will Be Different," part of the streamer's growing slate of Canadian original productions. The 10-episode series, produced by Sphere Media, follows Lucy through a slow-burn romance with her best friend's brother across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island; casting for the male lead, Felix, has not yet been announced.
Nélisse, 26, is best known for playing the younger Shauna in Showtime's Yellowjackets, whose fourth and final season is due later this year, and recently won a Canadian Screen Award for her role in the hockey romance series Heated Rivalry. Filming on This Summer Will Be Different is taking place across Prince Edward Island and Toronto this summer, with Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart as showrunners and Fortune, Jennifer Kawaja and Elise Cousineau among the executive producers. The casting news follows the recent renewal of a second season for Prime Video's adaptation of Fortune's debut novel, Every Summer After.
