Yoto, the maker of audio players designed for children, has unveiled two new devices: a fourth-generation Yoto Player and a refreshed Yoto Mini. Both retain the brand's signature giant green button for quick access to favourite content, but this update marks a shift towards allowing children to control playback directly on the device without needing a parent's phone or physical Yoto Cards. The move matters because it builds on hardware that has already been praised for its child-friendly design, while also signalling notable price increases across the range.

The new Yoto Player features a twistable green dial giving access to up to 20 pieces of favourite audio, improved routine settings, storage boosted to 64GB, faster downloads and an upgraded nightlight panel; it will cost $150, up from $110, with shipping from 15 October. The smaller Yoto Mini has been made rugged and water- and dust-resistant, offers storage for around 1,000 hours of audio, and works with wired and Bluetooth headphones; it rises in price to $110 from $80, shipping from 30 September. Yoto is also launching scratch-proof cases in four colours for both devices, alongside a wireless dock and a Yoto Card case still in development, with pricing and availability yet to be confirmed.
