You can snap up a Lego Hubble set before the real one burns up in the atmosphere

Lego has unveiled a new 1,252-piece Icons set that pays tribute to the Hubble Space Telescope, allowing enthusiasts to build their own model of the famous observatory. The set goes on sale on 1 August priced at $140, offering fans a way to commemorate the telescope that has been in orbit since 1990 and is expected to eventually deorbit and burn up in Earth's atmosphere.

The model includes removable panels that reveal replicas of Hubble's internal instruments, such as gyroscopes and mirrors, along with adjustable antennas and solar arrays. It comes with a display stand featuring an information plaque and an astronaut minifigure to indicate scale, and once assembled with its aperture door open, it measures over 12.5 inches tall, 15 inches long and 15 inches wide. This is not Lego's first take on Hubble, as the telescope previously appeared as a payload in the company's 2021 Space Shuttle Discovery set, and the real telescope is not anticipated to re-enter the atmosphere until at least the mid-2030s.
