Google has begun rolling out an AI-powered tool called Organize My Files in Drive, which uses Gemini to suggest how loose documents, photos and other files should be sorted into folders. Users simply review and approve the suggestions rather than manually sorting everything themselves, addressing a long-standing weakness in Google Drive's web client, which has historically had limited search and organisational tools. The feature began testing last autumn and started rolling out to Workspace users in June.

Access requires a paid Google AI Pro or AI Ultra subscription, starting at $20 a month, or a Business, Enterprise or Education Workspace account, and only works on private folders rather than shared ones. Users must also have Smart features enabled in Workspace, which is on by default in most regions. Gemini can recommend new folders and lets users preview suggested file moves, but it does not rename files or read document contents, so it works best when files already follow a clear naming convention.
