## Key points

- Free food draws young Texans into conversations about voting.
- The group also offers registration advice and practical help.
- It says an Austin campus event registered 1,011 young voters.

## Summary

A Texas voter outreach group is using free doughnuts and other food to start conversations with young people ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Donuts + Democracy says its aim is to help them register, understand the voting process and get to the polls. Its organisers describe food as an invitation to engage, while also offering practical help to students who encounter registration problems or other difficulties when voting.

The group says it helped register 1,011 young voters during a 15-hour event at the University of Texas at Austin before the state’s October registration deadline. That figure is the group’s own account, and it does not establish how many of those students went on to vote. The campaign highlights a broader challenge for youth outreach: attracting attention is one step, but helping first-time voters navigate the process may be just as important.
