Zack Snyder is set to premiere his long-gestating passion project, "The Last Photograph," at the Toronto International Film Festival, marking a departure from the superhero and sci-fi fare that made him famous. The screening is notable because the film is being shown as an acquisition title, meaning no studio or streamer has yet bought distribution rights, so the Toronto premiere doubles as a sales pitch to potential buyers.

The special event screening will take place on Sunday, 12 September, at the John Bassett Theatre within the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, part of the festival's new official content market. The film stars Stuart Martin and Fra Free, both previously seen in Snyder's "Rebel Moon" films, and follows an ex-DEA agent hunting for his missing niece and nephew in the South American jungle with the help of a war photographer. Snyder developed the story himself back in the mid-2000s following the success of "300," with Christian Bale and Sean Penn once attached before he moved on to his DC superhero work; the screenplay was co-written with longtime collaborator Kurt Johnstad.
