Disney has confirmed that "Zootopia 3" is officially in development, following the record-breaking box office performance of "Zootopia 2." The announcement was made at Disney's D23 fan event, with cast members Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan confirming their characters would return, extending a franchise that began with the original 2016 film and has grown into one of Disney's most commercially successful animated properties.
"Zootopia 2," released in 2025, became Disney's highest-grossing animated film ever, taking $1.8 billion at the global box office and posting the largest global opening weekend of all time for an animated feature. The sequel followed police officers Judy Hopps (Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) as they investigated the disappearance of Zootopia's reptile population, aided by pit viper Gary De'Snake (Quan), and it also received an Academy Award nomination for best animated feature. No plot, release date or creative team details for the third instalment have yet been announced.
