Glass mouse pads haven’t won me over but gamer sleeves are a different story

PC Gamer · 2 months ago

PC Gamer’s Jacob Fox concludes that glass mouse pads have practical advantages but do not suit his preferred games or aiming style. Their low friction and consistent surface may benefit players who value fast gliding and sustained tracking, but he finds the greater resistance of cloth “control” pads improves precision in tactical shooters such as Counter-Strike 2.

Glass pads resist wear and can be cleaned easily, although they wear down mouse skates more quickly and generally require a sleeve to stop an arm sticking or dragging. After dozens of hours with several glass pads, including the QPAD Obsidian and Wallhack CR-005, Fox returned to cloth pads but retained the gamer sleeve, saying it provides more consistent arm movement regardless of weather or skin conditions.

  • Glass pads offer consistency, but suit fast-glide players better.
  • Cloth control pads improved the writer’s Counter-Strike aim.
  • Gamer sleeves provided a lasting benefit on any pad.
