The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, one of America's largest labour unions, has urged President Donald Trump to impose steep tariffs on Mexican beer imports, singling out popular brands such as Modelo and Corona. Teamsters president Sean O'Brien argues that these beers, and other imported goods, should instead be brewed domestically, framing the move as a way to protect American manufacturing and safeguard union jobs.

O'Brien contends that shifting production of brands like Modelo to the United States would keep jobs "in this country" and strengthen domestic industry. The push comes as the union positions itself firmly behind Trump's broader tariff agenda, adding beer to the list of imported goods facing pressure from organised labour amid the administration's wider trade disputes with Mexico.
