João Gomes seals £38m Aston Villa move, Hall and Robinson on Manchester United list
Aston Villa have signed Brazil midfielder João Gomes from Wolves in a £38m deal, as Manchester United continue reshaping their squad by tracking potential defensive reinforcements and confirming a new young winger signing. Gomes's move ends a three-and-a-half-year spell at Wolves and comes amid a busy summer for Villa, who have also seen Youri Tielemans depart for United while Morgan Rogers nears a £117m switch to Chelsea.
The 25-year-old, who has 130 Wolves appearances and 10 Brazil caps, was praised by the club's technical director as a player "coaches love and players love". Separately, United are considering Newcastle's Lewis Hall and Fulham's Antonee Robinson as left-back options to challenge Luke Shaw, while also wanting a third midfielder after signing Andrey Santos and Tielemans. United have already completed the £4m signing of 18-year-old Tottenham winger Tynan Thompson, and Argentina defender Lisandro Martínez was substituted injured during the World Cup final defeat to Spain.
