Meta Glasses review: A bit less polish, a lot more baggage

Engadget · 23 hours ago

Meta has rebranded its smart glasses lineup under its own name, "Meta Glasses," dropping the Ray-Ban and Oakley designer branding it previously relied on for its wearable devices. According to an Engadget review, this shift allows Meta to sell the glasses more cheaply while retaining nearly all the functionality of its Ray-Ban and Oakley equivalents, though the frames feel slightly less premium and polished by comparison.

The new range starts at $299 and comes in three styles — Adventurer, Starfire and Fury — each offered in multiple colours and lens options, giving buyers more choice than before. The reviewed Fury model, tested in tortoiseshell with transition lenses, matched other Gen 2 models with its 12-megapixel camera and microphone setup and a claimed battery life of "more than eight hours," though the reviewer typically got closer to four and a half hours. The Fury frames were noted as heavier and less comfortable over extended wear, with a ridge causing pressure on the head and nose dents, while adjustable nosepieces and temple tips offered a somewhat improved fit over previous Ray-Ban Optics models. The review scored the glasses 8/10, praising the lower price and added style options but flagging reduced polish and AI features gated behind a subscription.
