Brandon Sanderson’s Blightful returns to the Cytoverse — read an exclusive excerpt
Brandon Sanderson's Cytoverse science fiction series is expanding into television, with Tomorrow Studios developing a live-action adaptation of Skyward, the first book in the young-adult series about teenage pilots. The production company, known for Netflix's One Piece adaptation, is currently in early development stages. Simultaneously, Sanderson is launching a new novel trilogy within the Cytoverse universe, with the first instalment arriving in September.
Blightfall, the opening book of the trilogy, reunites Sanderson with co-author Janci Patterson, who previously collaborated with him on Skyward Flight. The narrative centres on Arturo, a supporting character elevated to protagonist status as leader of the Defiant Defense Force, and Sadie, a character introduced in earlier novels. When their diplomatic mission to a previously isolated human settlement is attacked, the pair becomes trapped on a mysterious planet with hostile conditions and old adversaries, forcing them to seek unexpected alliances for escape.
