Beta Cinema has been appointed world sales agent for "Growth of the Soil," a new film by Norwegian director Hans Petter Moland, ahead of its world premiere in the Special Presentation section of the Toronto Film Festival. The film adapts Knut Hamsun's Nobel Prize-winning novel of the same name and marks a notable addition to Moland's body of work, which includes several acclaimed collaborations with Stellan Skarsgård and multiple Golden Bear nominations.

The film is an epic love story set in Norway's mountains, following Isak, who settles remote land above the tree line, and Inger, the resilient woman he meets there, as they build a life and family together over the years. It stars Herbert Nordrum ("The Worst Person in the World") and Asta Kamma August, with a screenplay co-written by Moland and Gard B. Eidsvold, cinematography by Oskar Dahlsbakken and a score by Kaspar Kaae. Hamsun's original novel, "Markens Grøde," won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1920 and has been translated into more than 40 languages.
