Games studio Happy Broccoli, creators of Duck Detective, has revealed details of its next release, Apple Crumble, a Knives Out-inspired mystery in which players investigate their own family after learning someone wants to kill grandma. Unlike Duck Detective's office-based crime-solving, the new title is built as a walking simulator set inside a family home, where players can open every drawer and door to uncover clues about relatives including a stressed mother and a "midlife crisis uncle". The game marks a tonal shift for the studio, moving from comedy into more emotionally serious territory as the plot unfolds.

Speaking to the Guardian, founder and creative director Annika Maar described it as a "sad grandma game", inspired by her own feelings about her grandmother's death. The house is filled with invented documents and objects, such as a film script written by the uncle, intended to make the world feel believable. Its art style draws on concept art for Puss in Boots, using layered paint splatters for a warmer, less clinical look. Maar is currently finishing the script and preparing to cast voice actors, with Apple Crumble planned for PC release later in 2026.
