Bassist and songwriter Divinity Roxx has spoken about her journey from secretly teaching herself bass guitar to touring the world with Beyoncé and earning Grammy nominations. Raised in Atlanta, she initially made her name as a rapper before deciding she needed to play an instrument to be taken seriously as a musician, a decision that eventually led her into the orbit of renowned bassist Victor Wooten and, later, onto some of the biggest stages in the world.

Roxx trained with Wooten after attending his bass camp, and went on to tour as part of an all-female band that she says helped demonstrate women's place at the centre of the music industry. Her breakthrough moment came performing alongside Beyoncé at the BET Awards. She has since turned her attention to children's and family music, blending her hip-hop roots with funk and rock influences, work that has earned her two Grammy nominations for Best Children's Music Album.
