Sony Pictures has confirmed a June 2027 theatrical release for "Skeletons", a creature horror film from "Strange Darling" director JT Mollner, starring Brie Larson. The project, produced by J.J. Abrams, was acquired by Sony earlier this year after a bidding war involving Paramount, Warner Bros. and Neon, reflecting strong studio appetite for horror titles with a recognisable cast.

The film is adapted from Philip Fracassi's short story "Fail-Safe", centred on a young boy's relationship with his mother, who is caged every night; Brian Duffield wrote an initial draft before Mollner revised the script. Universal had previously optioned the story in 2022, but that lapsed in 2024, paving the way for Sony's acquisition. The ensemble cast also includes Kyle Gallner, Daithí Ó Haragáin, Willa Fitzgerald, Ione Skye, John Goodman and Keith Carradine, with filming having begun the previous month.
