Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has given further detail on the studio's repeated failed attempts to cast Adam Driver, describing it as "a tradition to Zoom with him, and then he passes." Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Feige confirmed the pattern of talks that never lead to a deal, even as speculation mounts that Driver could join the upcoming X-Men reboot in a role such as Magneto, William Stryker or Mister Sinister.

Feige said Driver "couldn't be more cordial" during these conversations and is "usually upfront about how he is feeling" when turning roles down. The X-Men reboot is being directed by Jake Schreier from a script by Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear showrunner Joanna Calo, and will introduce a new generation of mutant characters after Avengers: Doomsday closes out the Fox-era X-Men cast, with all characters now under Disney following its 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox.
