"Saturday Night Live" cast member Chloe Fineman has revealed that when she phoned Lorne Michaels to tell him she was leaving the show, the SNL boss was watching the World Cup and asked her to call back later. Speaking to Variety at the premiere of Apple TV's "The Dink" in Los Angeles, Fineman recounted the exchange, which she said turned into "a really lovely chat" once Michaels returned her call. The anecdote adds a light-hearted footnote to her exit from the long-running sketch show after seven seasons.

Fineman, who joined "SNL" in 2019 and became known for impressions of figures including Jennifer Coolidge, Timothée Chalamet, Drew Barrymore, Britney Spears and JoJo Siwa, announced her departure on 16 July via Instagram, saying it was "time for my next chapter". She told Variety she cried when the news was announced and again when co-star Colin Jost called her, describing the cast as "family" and saying she was glad to be "leaving on a high note". Her next role will be as a series regular on the "Myron Bolitar" series, currently in production.
