The song marked a notable coda to a hugely successful solo career that had run alongside her work with Fleetwood Mac throughout the 1980s, and it closed out an era in which Nicks was among the decade's most commercially successful pop artists.

"Rooms On Fire" appeared on Nicks' 1989 album The Other Side Of The Mirror, written with longtime collaborator Rick Nowels, and reached No. 16 on both the US and UK charts, giving Nicks her first UK solo success. She described the song's origins in liner notes, recalling recording at a Dutch castle with Hine and feeling the rooms were "on fire" whenever he entered. Subsequent singles from the album missed the Top 40, and despite some near-misses in the 1990s, Nicks never again matched that level of singles-chart success.
