Lambchop, the long-running project fronted by Kurt Wagner, have released a new song, "The New World Wave", which depicts a family's struggles during the Great Depression. It arrives ahead of their forthcoming album, marking the latest preview of a record shaped by an unusual set of collaborators from the Bon Iver and Gayngs circles.

The track appears on Punching The Clown, out 21 August via Merge in North America and City Slang elsewhere, and follows previously shared songs "Weakened" and "Stella". The album was recorded at Justin Vernon's April Base studio, with Vernon contributing banjo, Fog's Andrew Broder co-writing alongside Wagner, and Gayngs frontman Ryan Olson producing. On the new song, Wagner delivers his characteristic spoken-sung character sketches over a folk-tinged arrangement that builds into a choral swell.
