AI-generated "slop" mods have spread through Skyrim's modding community, including in the popular category of sexually explicit content, as tools that make coding easier let creators churn out low-effort mods with slick, misleading thumbnails. This matters because it undermines modders who spend months on detailed, hand-crafted work, who report being outpaced in downloads and awards by AI-assisted mods offering a fraction of the effort, and because it signals how AI content is becoming normalised even in niche corners of the internet.

Examples include a mod generating naked 3D characters during loading screens and a sexualised World of Warcraft-inspired follower mod, made using AI voice and script tools, that won a "mod of the month" vote on hosting site Nexus Mods. One modder said a rival's 52-line AI-scripted follower mod drew four times the downloads of their own effort, which included over 1,000 lines of recorded dialogue. Nexus Mods has permitted AI-generated content since 2023, provided it doesn't breach copyright, and allows but doesn't require creators to tag such mods; some AI-tagged mods have reportedly amassed millions of downloads, and one modder is said to have released dozens of mods weekly throughout 2026.
