Forget John Wick, Keanu Reeves’ Best Action Hero Officially Returns After 35 Years

Collider · 3 hours ago

A newly restored 4K version of Point Break, the 1991 action film that helped launch Keanu Reeves' career, is returning to US cinemas for a limited run to mark its 35th anniversary. The re-release comes as Reeves continues a strong run at the box office in 2026 with roles in Toy Story 5 and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but industry figures argue that the earlier film remains foundational, having paved the way for later hits such as Speed, The Matrix and John Wick.

The restoration, produced by Resurgence Media Group, Saga Arts and Fathom Entertainment, will screen nationwide on 16 and 19 August. Point Break starred Reeves as FBI agent Johnny Utah alongside Patrick Swayze, Lori Petty and Gary Busey, and was directed by Kathryn Bigelow from a script by W. Peter Iliff. Surfer Matt Archbold, who was Swayze's surfing double in the film, will give an introduction before screenings, and Fathom Entertainment's Shannah Miller said the release aims to bring the film's famous surfing and skydiving sequences back to the big screen for its loyal fanbase.
