Gary Louris of The Jayhawks has created an album deeply centred on his personal transformation following his 2020 marriage to Stephanie Stevenson. The band's 12th studio release, arriving in late August, was explicitly conceived as a tribute to both his wife and their shared life journey. Named after a location in Ontario with personal significance to Stevenson, the project interweaves narratives from both of their pasts whilst reflecting on the passage of time and Louris's integration into Canadian life as a permanent resident in rural Quebec.

The creative process reunited Louris with celebrated producer Bob Ezrin after more than two decades apart. Working within the constraint of just ten days in a Toronto studio, the band prioritised capturing authentic human energy and spontaneous musical interplay rather than pursuing elaborate studio refinement. Louris noted that despite the Jayhawks' reputation as an American roots act, their artistic foundations actually draw substantially from Canadian legends including Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, and Joni Mitchell, positioning this latest chapter as both an evolution and a reconnection with their foundational influences.
