Vernon Taylor, born in Maryland, became a pioneering figure in rockabilly and country music after forming The Nighthawks whilst still a teenager. The band achieved moderate success with television appearances and recordings such as 'I've Got The Blues,' establishing Taylor as a notable figure in early roots music. However, he eventually chose to step back from the industry to focus on his personal life and family commitments.

Taylor died on 12 July at 88 following a prolonged struggle with dementia, only a day after his brother Luther passed from the same illness. Despite his departure from the public eye decades earlier, Taylor maintained a respected place in music circles through the relationships he built. Fellow musicians and performers he had worked with, including The Fabulous Hubcaps, publicly honoured his contributions and kindness, noting his continued presence at important moments in their careers.
