Krill, the indie rock trio formerly based in Boston, have reunited in Chicago with an updated lineup and released "Commemorative Plaque," their first new song in a decade. The band now consists of singer-bassist Jonah Furman, drummer Ian Becker and new guitarist Andrew Clinkman, with additional contributions from violinist Macie Stewart and saxophonist Will Greene. The release marks a significant return for a group that split up years ago, signalling renewed activity and the promise of further new music.

Furman described the track as an ode to Aretha Franklin's 1970 song "Call Me" and as a reflection on moving back to Chicago after years away. Formed in 2010, Krill released three albums during their original five-year run before breaking up after relocating to New York, capping that era with a self-titled EP in 2016. In 2020, Furman and Becker formed a related project called Knot, whose album has since been retroactively reclassified as a Krill record, and in 2022 the band reissued their debut album, Alam No Hris, for its tenth anniversary.
