Philips has unveiled the Sonicare Next-Generation DiamondClean 9900 Prestige, a smart electric toothbrush that uses artificial intelligence to give users real-time feedback on their brushing technique and flag areas of the mouth that need more attention. The device aims to remove guesswork from oral hygiene by combining sensor tracking with a touchscreen interface, part of Philips' ongoing push to add smart features to its Sonicare range.

The toothbrush uses a third-generation AI model to track its movement in the mouth, displaying a "mouth map" on its touchscreen that divides the teeth and gums into 12 segments, highlighted in blue or orange to show how thoroughly each area was cleaned. A glowing ring on the base changes colour to warn against excessive pressure, backed by pressure sensors that automatically soften the brushing intensity, while the touchscreen offers eight cleaning modes including gum health and sensitive settings. It is expected to launch in Europe and the US this autumn, with a broader global rollout in 2027; pricing has not been confirmed, though previous Sonicare models have retailed at around $430, suggesting this model will cost more.
