Rangers manager Derek McInnes has been handed a four-game touchline ban, with one match suspended, by the Scottish FA after calling a late penalty awarded to Celtic "disgusting". He made the comment while still in charge of Hearts, after Celtic were awarded a stoppage-time spot-kick for handball at Motherwell in May, converted by Kelechi Iheanacho, which kept Hearts' title rivals in touch before Celtic clinched the championship days later. The case matters because it forms part of a wider disciplinary crackdown following the controversial decision, which also triggered abuse of the match referee.

McInnes will serve his ban for Rangers' opening two Premiership fixtures, against Dundee United and Hibernian, plus a League Cup tie in mid-August, though it does not apply to their Europa League qualifier against Jagiellonia Bialystok. The suspended part of the ban will be activated if he breaches the same conduct rule again before the end of the 2026-27 season. Motherwell and former player Elliott Watt have also been sanctioned over the same incident, with Watt given a four-match ban and the club fined £5,000, while referee John Beaton had his home placed under police surveillance after his details were shared online.
