Hulu's new crime drama "Furious," created by Elizabeth Meriwether and inspired by the 1987 film Black Widow, offers a darker take on the familiar cat-and-mouse thriller format, distinguishing itself through strong central performances rather than a straightforward chase narrative. The series follows FBI agent Alice Black, played by Emmy Rossum, whose career has stalled after a damaging personal relationship with her former superior left her ostracised by colleagues and friends alike, before a murder investigation pulls her back into serious casework.

Rossum's Alice is drawn into the case after the son of a powerful New York businessman is found dead, a death initially linked to a previous investigation from her time with the NYPD. As further wealthy, influential men are targeted, the case escalates into a serial killing investigation, forcing the FBI and NYPD into an uneasy partnership; Alice is joined by agent Nora Washington (Quincy Tyler Bernstine) and detective Danny Kelly (Scoot McNairy) as they probe the city's underworld, with Jake Lacy playing her former partner Marshall.
