SWFC News: Mudd situation explained with Owls absentee subject of official approach – thestar.co.uk

Sheffield Wednesday assistant coach Craig Mudd has been left out of the club's pre-season training camp in Budapest after Manchester City lodged an official approach to bring him back to the Premier League. Manager Henrik Pedersen confirmed the situation, saying Mudd would remain at home in England until the matter was resolved, with the move reportedly linked to a vacancy left by Ben Wilkinson, who departed City's under-21 setup to join John Eustace's staff at Derby County.

Mudd, 39, joined Wednesday in September 2025 having previously worked at Manchester City's training facility, and is now expected to depart back to the Etihad. With his absence already being felt in Hungary, analyst Ben King has stepped in to help oversee training drills, while Pedersen said he is holding informal talks with potential replacement coaches, though no appointment has yet been confirmed. The manager added he is using the pre-season week to assess his existing staff's capabilities before deciding what further additions the coaching team needs.
