Plans to combine seven Alhambra shop units to expand Barnsley’s Health on the High Street scheme

The Star (Sheffield) · 4 hours ago

Barnsley has submitted planning proposals to expand its Health on the High Street initiative by merging seven retail spaces on the first floor of the Alhambra shopping centre into a single, consolidated healthcare facility. The combined units will serve South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, providing consultation rooms, reception and waiting areas alongside staff facilities and supporting infrastructure.

The expansion continues a broader effort to decentralise outpatient care away from Barnsley Hospital and into the town centre, enhancing convenience for residents whilst revitalising the high street. The new facility will accommodate predominantly pre-booked appointments alongside some walk-in sessions, and forms part of a wider scheme that includes additional health and wellbeing services and a gym operated by Barnsley Premier Leisure. Residents can submit feedback on the application until July 30.
