The Laugh List Sets First Selection Of Year’s Best Unproduced Comedy Screenplays
Deadline has revealed the inaugural selections for The Laugh List, a new industry survey highlighting the year's most promising unproduced comedy screenplays. Launched in June in partnership with Just for Laughs Montreal and unveiled during the festival's ComedyPRO marketplace, the initiative aims to spotlight strong comedic writing that founder Reg Tigerman argues Hollywood has been overlooking, not for lack of quality material but for lack of advocates willing to champion it.
The first edition names 10 scripts chosen from a pool of more than 40 nominated projects, submitted by writers ranging from established professionals to those without representation. An anonymous panel of over a dozen feature comedy executives from leading production companies nominated and then voted on the submissions. The selected scripts span genres including coming-of-age, romantic, historical and political mockumentary comedy, with three—Gabe Delahaye's "I'd Like To Speak To Your Manager," the Shipley brothers' "This Could Be Our Night," and Morgan Lehmann's untitled erotic teen fan fiction project—already having secured development deals.
