New GTA mod creates live portals between GTA 3’s Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas
A modder known as Dryxio has created a mod that links the three Grand Theft Auto games from the PlayStation 2 era – GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas – through live, functioning portals. Players can pass between Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas in real time, effectively turning the classic trilogy into one connected, explorable world. The mod arrives as anticipation builds ahead of GTA 6's release, offering fans a nostalgic way to revisit the older titles.
The portals, inspired by Valve's Portal, are placed at recognisable landmarks such as Grove Street in San Andreas and also allow players to interact across game boundaries, including shooting into neighbouring areas. This works because all three games run simultaneously in the background, yet operate independently, meaning actions in one title won't trigger a citywide response across the others, and each game retains its own separate save file to avoid corruption. The mod is not yet publicly available, but Dryxio says it is expected to launch before GTA 6 arrives on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with progress trackable via his GitHub page.
