Magic: The Gathering will begin a new in-universe story arc in 2027 with three sets focused on its own Multiverse, following the multiverse-spanning climax of 2026’s Reality Fracture. The announcement matters because it shifts attention from recent crossover-heavy Universes Beyond releases back to original settings and characters, while deliberately giving players a break from another immediate world-ending crisis.

The first set, Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, launches on 5 February and introduces an entirely underwater plane populated by humanoid and ordinary sea creatures. Kamigawa: Titanbreach follows on 4 June, pitting the futuristic plane’s mechs against Ikoria’s monsters, while Zhalfir arrives on 1 October as Magic’s first Afrofantasy-focused set; its designers said they sought a broad range of cultural influences rather than relying on a single tradition.
