The Venice Film Festival has unveiled its 2026 lineup, featuring a strong slate of international titles even as Hollywood's presence is expected to be lighter than in previous years, echoing a similar trend at Cannes. The festival opens with the world premiere of Danny Boyle's "Ink", a competition entry for the Golden Lion starring Guy Pearce as media magnate Rupert Murdoch and Jack O'Connell as Sun editor Larry Lamb, with Netflix having already secured US distribution rights.

The 83rd edition runs from 2 to 12 September, closing with Giovanni Veronesi's out-of-competition comedy-drama "Dio Ride", starring Pierfrancesco Favino as a 17th-century friar. Maggie Gyllenhaal will chair the competition jury, becoming the third woman to do so in five years after Isabelle Huppert, Julianne Moore and Cate Blanchett, joined by filmmakers Johnnie To, Kaouther Ben Hania, Shahrbanoo Sadat and Xavier Giannoli, composer Daniel Blumberg and academic Francesco Casetti. George Clooney and Ellen Burstyn will receive lifetime achievement awards.
