Blasphemous and Sekiro enjoyers may savour the boss rushing of Rubinite, a dark fantasy action RPG about a red-eyed murder princess

Rock Paper Shotgun · 4 hours ago

Rubinite, a new boss-rush action RPG from Gameworks Ventures and Cup Dog Games, has launched on sale via Steam. The dark fantasy title casts players as Ruby, an exiled princess of the conquered Scarlet Kingdom, who must fight through a gauntlet of grotesque sentinels to reach and defeat the sorceress responsible. It stands out for pairing a stripped-back, no-block combat system with a distinctive weak-point-marking mechanic, drawing comparisons to Sekiro and Blasphemous.

Ruby's knife does little damage alone, so combat centres on holding a trigger to aim and mark up to three enemy weak points, which can then be unleashed in a powerful finishing attack; precise dodges refill the marking bar, but taking damage clears any marks made so far. Bosses range from an oversized caterpillar to a Malenia-esque swordswoman, each with unique twists such as reflectable projectiles, while talismans and levelling add customisation between fights. Outside of battles, players return to a shattered tower hub that expands as bosses fall, featuring NPCs including a blacksmith and an owl-helmeted warrior, all set in a world praised for its gruesome, gothic-tinged art style.

  • Boss-rush RPG Rubinite has launched and is on sale on Steam.
  • Combat centres on marking enemy weak points for finishing blows.
  • Praised for Sekiro-like precision and Blasphemous-style dark art design.
