Shigeru Miyamoto Defends Nintendo’s Production Of Remakes

Nintendo Life · 4 hours ago

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has defended the company's steady output of remakes, telling Famitsu magazine that reworking older titles is a good way to introduce them to younger players who never had the chance to play them originally. He argued that after around five years many players move on from a game, and younger audiences lack access to titles from a decade ago, so remaking and re-releasing them meets that demand while potentially paving the way for future new instalments.

His comments follow the release of the acclaimed Switch 2 remake of Star Fox, which retells the story of Star Fox 64, and come ahead of the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Nintendo has released numerous other new titles in 2026, including Splatoon Raiders and Pokémon Pokopia, alongside these remakes, and Miyamoto suggested that reintroducing classic games can also lead to fresh future developments, fuelling speculation about a potential new Star Fox entry.

  • Miyamoto says remakes help younger players discover older Nintendo games.
  • He argues remakes can pave the way for new instalments.
  • Comes as Star Fox remake succeeds and Ocarina of Time remake looms.
