Oblivion Remastered’s lengthy patch drought could end with its Switch 2 release, which Bethesda say includes “optimisations” they hope to bring to PC

Oblivion Remastered has gone over a year without a major update, and Bethesda has now hinted that fixes could finally arrive via its upcoming Switch 2 release. Responding to a fan enquiry, the studio said the team behind the remaster is focused on the Switch 2 launch on 11th August, which includes "optimisations" they hope to eventually bring back to console and PC versions of the game. This offers a glimmer of hope for players frustrated by persistent bugs and performance issues that have gone unaddressed since the last major patch.

The game's last significant update, version 1.2, arrived roughly a year ago and aimed to improve performance and fix bugs, but no major patches have followed despite ongoing problems, reflected in currently mixed Steam reviews. Bethesda's comments came alongside remarks about a broader "shift" in how the studio communicates with players, which it said had been under consideration for some time rather than being solely a response to recent leadership changes and layoffs at Xbox. The unresolved issues have also coloured reactions to Bethesda's separate announcement of upcoming Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters.
