Stef Chura Announces New Album Dancing Alone On The Concrete Feat. Members Of R.E.M., Sugar, & Elephant 6

Stereogum · 5 hours ago

Detroit indie rock singer-songwriter Stef Chura has announced her first new album in seven years, Dancing Alone On The Concrete, recorded in Athens, Georgia with Apples In Stereo frontman Robert Schneider producing. The record brings together an unusual roster of indie rock veterans, including several members of the Elephant 6 collective, and matters as a notable comeback and collaboration for an artist who has been away from full-length releases since her 2019 album Midnight.

Contributors include Elephant 6 figures John Fernandez (Olivia Tremor Control) and Scott Spillane (Neutral Milk Hotel), alongside session musicians David Barbe (Sugar) and Andy LeMaster, who in turn brought in R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Mike Mills to play on lead single "Danny". The nine-track album follows major changes in Chura's personal life, including becoming a mother and moving between Detroit and New Orleans, and she will support the release with a support tour opening for Dinosaur Jr across the US this autumn.
