Sheffield leisure centre rebuilding plans are on the starting blocks

The Star (Sheffield) · 2 months ago

Sheffield City Council has unveiled plans to rebuild Springs Leisure Centre and Concord Sports Centre as the first projects in its wider strategy to modernise the city’s leisure provision. The plans matter because they aim to replace ageing facilities with more accessible, sustainable venues and support residents’ health, activity and wellbeing.

Rather than refurbishing the two centres, the council says complete rebuilds offer the most cost-effective, long-term option. New buildings are planned on neighbouring land so existing centres can stay open during construction, which was expected to begin in late 2026; proposed facilities include 25-metre pools, gyms, teaching pools, sports halls, studios, cafés and family play areas.
