Dinoblade, out now, is equal parts janky, genuinely sick and silly as hell

Rock Paper Shotgun · 2 months ago

Dinoblade has launched as an action game in which dinosaurs wield bladed weapons, expanding on a viral animation by developer Jean Nguyen from four years ago. The reviewer finds its deliberately absurd premise and responsive combat genuinely enjoyable, suggesting it succeeds as more than a novelty inspired by an internet clip.

Players control a spinosaurus able to parry, use quick and heavy attacks, and unlock powerful abilities such as summoning defeated bosses, firing sword energy beams and freezing enemies with a roar. The game is compared mechanically to Sekiro, though with a stronger action focus; it also has technical rough edges, including clunky environments, invisible enemies and loading problems. Dinoblade is available now on Steam, with a demo also offered.

  • Dinoblade turns a viral dinosaur sword animation into an enjoyable action game.
  • Responsive parrying and absurd powers outweigh its technical roughness.
  • It is available on Steam, alongside a demo.
