The filmed version of Tony-winning musical Hadestown will receive a five-night cinema release from 24 July, aiming to broaden the show’s audience and test a more cinematic approach to recording live theatre. Producers hope it will amplify word-of-mouth after successful Broadway and West End runs, while demonstrating that live captures can preserve a stage production’s character without feeling like a compromise.

The film features original cast members Eva Noblezada, Reeve Carney, Patrick Page, Amber Grey and André De Shields, who returned for month-long London engagements in winter 2025. It was shot across three live West End performances, with additional audience-free filming for camera angles, and uses techniques such as a continuous shot during Eurydice’s song “Flowers”. Lower London production costs and its contracting arrangements helped make the project viable; it was filmed before acquisition by Bleecker Street’s Crosswalk and LD Entertainment and premiered at Tribeca.
