For a 2nd time, House approves resolution to end the war in Iran in a rebuke to Trump

NPR ·

The US House of Representatives has again approved a resolution calling for American forces to be removed from hostilities with Iran, signalling growing congressional opposition to the war and to President Trump’s handling of it. Although the measure is not legally binding, it is a second symbolic rebuke of a conflict that Congress did not formally authorise.

The resolution passed 214–208, with four Republicans joining Democrats; a comparable Senate measure then failed by 47 votes to 49. The vote came as fighting intensified: the Pentagon reported 18 US service members killed since February, including four since 17 July, and nearly 500 injured. Supporters said Congress must reassert oversight, while opponents argued the military campaign was necessary in response to Iranian attacks on Americans and US interests.
