Zach Cregger says a prequel to his horror film Weapons, centred on Aunt Gladys, is actively being written and will explore the character’s previously withheld origin story. The project matters because Gladys became a breakout figure in the 2025 hit, while Cregger deliberately kept her mysterious in the original film.

The working title is Gladys, and Cregger and Zach Shields are writing it for New Line Cinema. Cregger said the story will contain twists, mysteries and “crazy” developments; Weapons earned $270 million worldwide and won Amy Madigan an Oscar for best supporting actress. He also said his next feature will be the New Line sci-fi film The Flood, after September’s Resident Evil adaptation.
