Urgent Yellowstone fishing closures hit 3 rivers as water turns deadly
Yellowstone National Park has temporarily closed parts of the Madison, Firehole and Gibbon rivers to fishing because unusually warm water is putting fish under stress. The measure is intended to protect aquatic life during extreme summer conditions, affecting anglers visiting some of the park’s most popular areas.
The National Park Service announced the closures on 15 July and said they would remain in place until further notice. The rivers are on Yellowstone’s west and north-west sides near busy visitor attractions, and the Firehole River runs through a notably warm geothermal landscape.
