Makoto Shinkai’s 2016 anime romance Your Name is returning to cinemas on 14 August to mark its 10th anniversary. The re-release brings one of the director’s most acclaimed films back to theatres, highlighting its lasting reputation for striking animation and an emotionally ambitious story about fate, time and love.

The film follows Mitsuha, a teenager in rural Gifu, and Taki, a boy in Tokyo, who unexpectedly begin swapping bodies despite never having met. Their efforts to communicate and manage each other’s lives develop into a close bond, before supernatural and time-related revelations force them to search for one another across seemingly impossible distances.
