Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson made a surprise appearance with Green Day’s covers project, The Coverups, at San Diego Comic-Con. The performance promoted Green Day’s forthcoming road-trip film Nimrods, bringing together two prominent rock acts for a one-off rendition of a well-known song.

Dickinson joined Billie Joe Armstrong and The Coverups for “All the Young Dudes”, written by David Bowie and made famous by Mott the Hoople. Dickinson had previously recorded his own version for his 1990 solo album Tattooed Millionaire; the Comic-Con event followed recent publicity for Nimrods, including its trailer, a new Green Day song and soundtrack details.
