Meta is making its AI chatbot more like an assistant

The Verge · 4 hours ago

Meta has added productivity features to Meta AI, positioning the chatbot more directly against assistants from Google, OpenAI and Anthropic. The update lets it use calendar information for daily briefings and planning, signalling a shift away from Meta’s earlier emphasis on entertainment and social connection.

Powered by Meta’s Muse Spark 1.1 model, the chatbot can research topics, create reports or presentations, and be redirected while responding. It can also carry out recurring tasks such as weekly meal plans, restock updates and calendar summaries; the rollout begins in selected markets on Meta AI’s app and website, with WhatsApp support expected in coming weeks.

  • Meta AI now offers calendar-linked planning and briefings.
  • The update adds recurring tasks and guided web research.
  • It is initially available only in selected markets.
