How FFXIV Evercold will change the MMO’s outdated features
Final Fantasy 14’s Evercold expansion is set to modernise several long-standing systems, including its quest structure, travel, dungeon scaling and character customisation. Square Enix says the changes are intended to give players more flexibility and make the MMO easier to fit around their schedules, while preserving its shared main story.
Main scenario quests will offer groups of objectives that can be completed in any order before the narrative reconverges, rather than meaningfully changing the plot. Evercold is also planned to add direct teleportation to quest-givers, although it may not be complete at launch, and real-time difficulty balancing based on each player’s level. From version 8.1, dungeon support will allow chocobos to fill party roles; the expansion also introduces gear item-level copying between jobs and optional action skins that replace selected animations.
- Evercold aims to make Final Fantasy 14 more flexible and convenient.
- Main quests will branch in order, not in story outcome.
- New systems cover travel, scaling, chocobo dungeons and animations.
