Commit cinematic sacrilege in Baldur’s Gate 3 with this true third-person camera mod

Rock Paper Shotgun · 3 hours ago

A modder known as Relysia has released a "true" third-person camera mod for Baldur's Gate 3, giving the classic isometric RPG an over-the-shoulder view more typical of action games. Camera design in games is often contentious, since developers usually build encounters and environments around a specific viewpoint, but the mod demonstrates how far community modding can push a title beyond its original intended presentation.

Available on Nexus Mods, the tool attaches the camera closely to the player's character and includes dynamic field-of-view changes while running, smooth transitions when crouching, and configurable settings via the game's mod configuration menu. During actions such as spell-targeting, jumping or inspecting objects, the camera briefly reverts to the standard view before automatically switching back to over-the-shoulder mode. Footage shared alongside the mod shows it tracking multiple characters smoothly, and it joins other recent Baldur's Gate 3 mods, including an extended Astarion ending and an overhaul of Wyll's companion quest.
