A wildfire broke out near Hackenthorpe, Sheffield, on Saturday afternoon, spreading rapidly through dry grassland and prompting a large-scale response from multiple fire crews using specialist equipment. It is the latest in a run of blazes to hit the Sheffield area during a prolonged dry spell, adding pressure on local fire services already stretched by repeated call-outs in recent days.

Crews from Birley Moor, Central, Aston Park, Maltby, Rotherham and Rivelin stations attended the scene, deploying a Polaris all-terrain wildfire vehicle to reach the affected ground. Firefighters faced difficult conditions, with drought-parched vegetation and strong winds hampering efforts to bring the fire under control. It follows a woodland fire in Grenoside on Friday and a grassland fire near Wensley Street on Wednesday, with officials linking at least one of the earlier incidents to a disposable barbecue.
